Tottenham Boss Frank Calls Vicario Critics 'Not True Real Supporters'

The Cottagers Begin Powerfully to Beat Tottenham and Increase Pressure on the Manager

Tottenham Hotspur fans who booed goalkeeper Vicario were told later "those individuals can't be real Tottenham supporters" by boss Frank.

Tottenham conceded two scores in the first initial moments to fall 2-1 to Fulham, registering their 10th Premier League at home loss of 2025.

But the main talking point was Fulham's second score when the keeper lost the ball far beyond his area.

He ventured out to deal with a high pass and carried the ball towards the sideline.

However, instead of kicking it into touch, the Italy international turned and tried to clear, but lost his footing as the ball glanced off Harry Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.

King laid the ball off to Welsh midfielder Wilson, who bent a strike into the net from the sideline measured at thirty-six point six yards.

Moments afterwards when the ball went to Vicario again, a number of Tottenham supporters jeered him.

Spurs were jeered off at half-time, with the side 2-0 down, and once more at full-time.

One of those jeering episodes truly angered the manager.

"It came to my attention a few of our supporters reportedly booed the incident and booed after, which, in my opinion is totally unjustifiable," the Dane stated regarding the supporters' reaction to his goalkeeper.

"Those individuals cannot be real Spurs fans that do that. Alright booing following the match, no problem, but when we are in play, we are backing one another, we are behind each other going forward."

Kenny Tete had handed the visitors a early lead before Harry Wilson's strike – with Kudus netting for Spurs in an improved second-half showing.

Ex- top-flight goalkeeper Joe Hart stated that the next score was "totally avoidable".

"I certainly understand the supporters' disappointment," the ex-keeper continued. "I know the role the keeper is playing. He is a excellent team player, he's a true figure in the dressing room but in the end you are going to be assessed by your decisions.

"He was deeply involved in what turned out to be the decisive goal."

'It is In the Game, I Can Handle It'

Thomas Frank Defended His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario After the Game

Italy national team Vicario is in his 3rd season with Tottenham.

He said following the game that he had to take the feedback.

"The second score was a error of my own, I take accountability for it," he said.

"The intent was to kick the ball long and I simply hit the ball in a bad way. It was an even bigger mountain to overcome."

He said being booed "is part of the game".

"I am mature, what can I say?" he continued. "We cannot be affected by the circumstances in the stands. Supporters have the right to do what they think.

"It's on us to stay more composed, to concentrate on ourselves. The team is lacking in calmness and poise to reverse outcomes. This match is a bad defeat and it's hard to take."

'It Shocked Me No One Went Back to the Goal Line'

Despite the keeper's error, it was far from an easy goal for Harry Wilson to convert.

Actually it was the second most distant Premier League goal of the season – after Adams' forty-three point three metre strike for the Cherries against Sunderland, which interestingly also came on the same day.

The goalscorer stated he was "somewhat taken aback" that he still had an empty net to aim for.

Ten moments elapsed between the keeper exiting of his box and the midfielder striking – which was 5 seconds after the clearance.

"It seemed to me like the goalkeeper was away from the area for a long time," he remarked.

"I was surprised not one of the defenders went back to the line. When none of them covered the net, my eyes lit up a bit.

"Udogie slipped too, which gave me a little extra opportunity. After that it was solely about trying to achieve the correct connection and get it on target. I had a good sense, as soon as it came off my foot, that it was on the right line."

'During in a Poor Run, All Appears to Work Against You'

Booing While We Are Still in Play Is Completely Unacceptable - the Manager

Although Vicario's error led coverage, this was an overall poor performance for Spurs to continue their home ground woes.

The match was their 10th at home defeat of 2025 in the Premier League, a shared club record matching 1994 and two thousand and three.

They still have home fixtures against Frank's former club Brentford and champions Liverpool to play before the close of the season.

Only one of those victories have come after Frank took over from his predecessor in the off-season.

"If you are down 2-0 following the opening, there is a huge challenge to climb," said Frank.

"When you're in a bad spell, all aspects appears to work against you too – the opening was a redirected shot, the next is a error from the keeper.

"The outcome puts us in a position where we have suffered an additional match. Each fixture has a single story, today we lost in the early stages.

"We simply need to continue striving. The second half was much better and hopefully something we can use to develop."

Tottenham have been defeated in four straight home capital clashes for the initial time in the Premier League.

And they are averaging 9.5 shots and three point two efforts on goal per game in the division – their lowest rates on record in a one campaign (since at least 2003-04).

Former Cottagers midfield player Danny Murphy commented that the manager has to endure the criticism.

"He's got accept the criticism," Murphy said. "He's accepted a high profile role at a major team with enormous anticipation. There is pressure and responsibility that accompanies that.

"The performances at home have been poor and they have to get better {quickly|
