The Gaming Giant Brings Onboard Apex Legends Producer to Boost Struggling Action Game Project Ethos

2K Games has secured Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the forthcoming over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.

Management Transition Comes After Mixed Response

Brinkman steps into the role of studio head at the development studio following the exit of former leader Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' disappointing initial reveal last autumn.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer notified team members about this organizational change through an official communication, which highlighted that playtesting had revealed the necessity for a distinct vision.

Ismailer expressed that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a revised vision, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.

A Pattern of Strategic Hires

Below is the complete text from the president's communication:

Hello Everyone—

I understand you all just wrapped up your gathering - I hope you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Last time I sent you all a message, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and creative creators we have had the pleasure to partner with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to continue.”

With your dedication and flexibility, especially over the last year, you consistently demonstrate that.

The gamer responses from last autumn’s the game testing phase was revealing. It confirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had improvements to make. It highlighted the need for a sharper vision.

It has been motivating to see how far you’ve come. You took the criticism to heart and reimagined the title with a revitalized goal - one that’s ready to achieve its ambition to our fans.

The trust in Project ETHOS grows every day. To boost the remarkable development you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome Ben Brinkman as the latest Lead of the team. Following some time of discussions, he starts with us on Monday, October 20.

His management and background in the competitive gaming space is vast, having devoted the recent years producing and leading some of the most popular series in the industry, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, Apex Legends.

Please join me in receiving him in the coming days. We are all eager to keep seeing the development of the game in the time to ahead.
