How do you improve a stellar veteran side that have won back-to-back championships, including a league-cup double with 30 wins from thirty-two games?

Bring in a raft of former pro players who have performed at the top level of club and international soccer as you pursue additional trophies.

One Greater Manchester club boasts an amateur veterans team with nine former Premier League footballers in their active squad.

222 Premier League Goals, 325 International Caps

The team Veterans Over 35s are based in south the city and play in the Cheshire Veterans Division Top Division.

The lineup this season features nine ex- Premier League footballers, with a total over 1,800 Premier League matches.

The star-studded team also boasts 222 top division scores and over 320 international caps.

They feature Papiss Cisse, who scored thirty-seven scores in over 100 games for his former club after signing for them for nine million pounds from German league club SC Freiburg in January 2012.

He made his debut for the team in their most recent home match versus reigning title holders their rivals and scored every one of the six goals in a 6-2 victory - including a half-hour first-half hat-trick.

Wythenshawe's team for this campaign also includes former professionals such as English and Liverpool striker Emile Heskey, Hull and Burnley FC winger George Boyd, Toffees forward Oumar Niasse, Wigan Athletic defender Maynor Figueroa, Manchester City pair Stephen Ireland and Nedum Onuoha and Premier League title winners Joleon Lescott and Danny Drinkwater.

Together, the ex- top-flight players have claimed fifteen significant trophies and transferred for combined transfer fees of around £123 million.

Well-Known Names and International Players

Ireland started turning out for the team in pre-season this summer through close mate and current Wythenshawe player Blake Norton, and the former Republic of Ireland player then asked other former professionals, who all compete in a weekly nine-a-side match, to participate.

Ex- Senegalese forward Oumar Niasse, who netted twelve scores in 65 top-flight matches for Everton and still attends their matches at Goodison Park, also made his debut against Collegiate OB - who are located in the city and use an Everton warm-up gear as their strip.

"My friend Stephen said 'join and play, it's enjoyable'," said the striker.

"Then he informed me we were facing a team from Liverpool and the surprise I had when I saw them sporting Everton kits - I say this is strange for me!

"If you still enjoy the game and you feel you can still play, wherever you can kick a ball, what are you going to do?

"Those people who come and watch are happy and to make a day if they see us playing there and to pose us queries - it's really about the joy of us having somewhere we can enjoy football, with organisation of course."

So great is the strength in depth at the club, he made his first game at full-back.

"It's a bit unusual but then, I love sprinting and just go inside - I'm not defending that much," he said.

"I warn my centre-back 'I'm not hanging back' and that I'm just going to continue running.

"The running is what I'm seeking. It's enjoyable."

Dreamlike' Experience

In addition to the forward's six scores on his first game, Ireland has scored eight in three games for Wythenshawe, while Boyd scored 5 on his first appearance and Lescott, a centre-half by trade, notched a hat-trick in one match up front.

The team are leading of the Top Tier with three victories from three and a GD of +19.

One opponent, thirty-eight, who features on the wing for Collegiate OB, faced former Latics full-back Figueroa on Sunday - and had to explain his young son who Emile Heskey was.

Figueroa has appeared at two global tournaments for Honduras, in addition to featuring in over 200 top-flight matches.

"It was going round like a rumor they had these former top-flight players," remarked the player.

"I think I was a bit awestruck facing Figueroa to be honest.

"Also Heskey got on and he's got over 60 English caps.

"Our side held our own for a solid 20 mins but then we had a player dismissed and it was hard.

"Our group literally haven't ceased chatting about it - I was phoning my mum and brother on the journey home.

"The opponents were all dead sound, shaking our hands after the match - it was like playing a group of regular fellas.

"Now we can't wait for the second fixture."
